About Me ..

Name

Let me take a little time to tell you about me. The name is Anjori. It means "a bright light in the dark" .. my mom gave me my name and I love it! I was born in the wonderful country of India where I resided until I was 3 years old. I have some pictures of the good ol' times (see the photos on this page). I found out that there is an actress in Bollywood with the same name, and I also found other people with the same name while doing a search on facebook. Let me tell you, I was quite upset at first because I thought I was the only one, and kind of still am. I definitely am not inclined to see the actress' movies. Oh well, one day I'll get it over it.

Where am I right now?

I have been in the US ever since. I am a Virginia Tech alumna with a Bachelor's in Computer and Electrical Engineering. I am now work for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and am enjoying the working life. =P That is except for when they give me deadlines that I can't meet and have to work tons and tons of hours to finish on time. I used to be a software developer, release manager, and team lead assistant. Yes, it was a lot of hats to wear at once, but now I've moved on to program management. I work on site with our client to provide any kind of support they need.

Family

I have a younger sister, Ragyi (who I love more than anything in this world!!) and a little tiny brother who is 12 years younger than me. He's so adorable sometimes, SOMETIMES! More about them and my parents in Ma Famille!

Where have I been?

My life so far has been an INTERESTING blessing. Neither of my parents work in the military but we happened to move quite often. Lets see .. Morgantown, West Virginia -> Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -> Reston, Virginia -> Herndon, Virginia -> Blacksburg, Virginia (Virginia Tech) -> Herndon, Virginia. That's all the places I've lived so far. Oh and while I was in Pittsburgh we went to India for about a year .. so that also counts as another one.

Hobbies

While in college I didn't have much time for hobbies however that doesn't mean that I didn't want to do certain things or haven't picked them back up now that I'm out. The only consistent hobby is dancing. I have taken up Kathak classes, which is a classical Indian dance, from North India. I've been learning with a class since November of 2006. I've always wanted to learn but never wanted my parents to worry about taking me places after school and stuff so I decided to wait until I had my own money and car to provide for my own transportation. I've loved every minute of it and hope to continue for years to come! While learning, I also get to do shows and perform exciting dances. In college I did get to dance, I have did dances with Bhangra and a Chinese dance too.

In the sports arena, I like playing tennis, badminton, and soccer. I hang out with my friends and family all the other times. I love watching movies and listening to music.

I have an addiction with Adobe Photoshop, digitally modifying photos or making my own creations. Which is one of the reasons I love working on my web site (granted I get time to). I also love taking pictures, especially of those random moments when people aren't expecting it. I like to capture the moods of an event rather than just having people standing, smiling, and waiting for a flash to go off.

Music

I listen to mostly Hindi songs and Bhangra, but I also enjoy soft rock, some R&B and some rap (I mostly started listening to these because of Ragyi =P), and techno and classical music are good alternatives when studying.

Movies

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge .. best movie ever! It means "the one with the heart takes away the bride." Placed in London, it is about a girl named Simran and a guy named Raj who meet during a Eurorail trip with their friends. They fall in love on this trip but Simran is already set to be married to one of her father's friend's son, back in India. Raj follows her to India and tries to win the love of her family so that he can marry Simran.

Hum Tum, Bend it Like Beckham, Fireproof, Hitch, Pride and Prejudice, Jab We Met, Lion King, and Aladdin are among my other favorites.

Books

I try to read when I can, which hasn't been very much at all but here are some of my favorites. Namesake by Jumpha Larhi, Sister of My Heart, Vines of Desire, and The Mistress of Spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
