Ohana .. means family and I love mine very much!
My immediate family consists of five people: my father, mother, younger sister,
younger brother, and me. The rest of the family .. lets just say would take me
a goooooooood while to talk about them all if I did try to .. =P
I really think that I couldn't get any better parents than I have right now. I
love them both! My father is a consultant for his own company, Nalanda Tech, Inc.
The company does projects for bigger companies right now. Yes, I sort of followed in
his footsteps. So aside from being good at his work, he is an awesome father, I mean why wouldn't
he be? He has two beautiful daughters who are just as awesome! =P We'll leave the
son unmentioned .. haha! My dad is one of those people who does not like to express
what they are feeling .. but you can hear every emotion in his voice (well, at
least I can) and I like that. =) And most dad's don't cook much, but my dad likes
to .. experiment with food. He is coming up with new ways to spice up old recipes.
My mother is a loving and caring ex-professor. She had gotten her PhD in Home
Science in India. She taught for a while there too. When we came to the US she took
up a full time job of taking care of all of us and she had done a great job. She is
also one of the best cooks, makes everything just perfect, and all without recipes.
She is a vegetarian but actually can cook meat (chicken and mutton) well. Not only
does she cook well but she sews and knits. For the longest time she made our whole
wardrobe, well until we started getting too picky and she got fed up with our requests.
=P She was diagnosed with breast cancer which she had recovered from but it has come back
unfortunately. Its tough but we are dealing with it one day at a time.
When my parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, in 2005, Ragyi and I gave
them a surprise party with all their friends. We also made a flash presentation
that consisted of their pictures before marriage, the wedding pictures, honeymoon,
pictures of all the kids, and finally with everyone together. It took a good while
to compose everything, especially having it be with the right music. We also bought them
broadway tickets to the Lion King and a picture frame that had 4 picture slots vertically.
There was a picture of each of them when they were single, one of my mom in her
wedding dress, and one of them at their wedding.
My other half, Ragyi, is my wonderful sister. She and I think a lot alike
and supposedly we also look alike. We are constantly mistaken for the other by people.
We finish each other's sentences all the time. I am very close to her, so close that
I'd rather spend a whole day just holding a phone with her on the other line then
be without her. We don't even have to be talking to each other, just the presence
is enough. She also is an alumna of Virginia Tech with an electrical engineering degree.
We shared rooms for 2 years. That was the best of times! She loves to draw, dance, take
pictures, play soccer, watch movies, and be updated on the latest news in Bollywood. =P
My bro, Suvritt, came into our little family of four in May of 1996. And since then
our family has been lightened up with his cuteness and energy. His name means intelligent,
wise person, hahaha! Ok, ok, I'll stop being mean. He is actually great at memorizing.
He'll be good at chemistry/biology. =P He would read a children's book and be able to
recite it word for word the next day. Now that all his cuteness has worn off, he spends
most of his time playing baseball, or basketball. He is now in middle school and all grown up.
He also plays the alto and berry saxophone.
